August, the month of Rains brings a sense of new beginning with greenery all around and clouds pouring their hearts out with all the rains and thunders. This month associating with greenery get its birth stone with this color only which is Peridot. Yes, Peridot is the birth stone for the month of August. This month also gets one more birthstone which is Sardonyx.

Peridot which is also known by some gem lovers as the Emerald of the Evening is a semi precious stone which is transparent and has oil like shine. It is a gemstone mixture of the green type mineral olivine. This stone is beautiful and brings good friends to its wearer. It is also believed that this stone wards off depression and fear of the heart and keeps at bay the envy of the enemies.

This stone has been in use since thousands of years. Peridot beads were first made by the Egyptians in the later years of the 15th century BC. This stone is not only used in making beads but these are more famous as cut stones and used in making gemstone jewelry. With different types of cuts like Emerald cut, Princess cut, cushion cut, Oval cut, Round and many more these just make any jewelry eye catchy and dazzling. This stone is one of the most loved stones by the gem and jewelry lovers because of this gleam and color that just makes it a must have adornment.

Sardonyx, an alternate birthstone of the month of August is a member of the agate family and is a orange version of onyx stone. It has reddish- brown and white bands as textures and is also popularly known as Sard.

The Ancients people wore this stone as a form of Talisman against evil and gave courage to the wearer. It is also believed that this stone gave articulacy to the speaker. This stone gets its name from the Greek “Sardis” the capital of ancient Lydia. It is found in India, Sri lanka, Russia, USA and Brazil.

There is a never ending list of natural gemstones and these being natural have some healing and magical powers which are believed to help the wearer of the stone in some ways. Hence one is recommended to wear a stone associated with their birth month.
